PODCAST NAME: New Mom Naturopath
EPISODE TITLE AND NUMBER: Episode 43 - +
In today’s episode, I discuss what you should prioritize as a new mother during postpartum. There are a lot of different factors for why stress increases during postpartum, but most of it breaks down to the fact that you are learning and your body is healing. During postpartum, you have a change in how you respond to stressors for most women; this results in an increase in stress response and comes out as anxiety. It is challenging in postpartum to prioritize tasks if you are experiencing anxiety. Every single thing on your to-do list seems like it is the priority. The dishes feel the same level of importance as the crying baby. In this episode, I dive into how you tell if it is a priority or not. Hope you enjoy it, mama!

In this episode, I talk about the hormone changes and physical changes your body goes through during postpartum, with an emphasis on your milk production. Understanding how your body produces milk for your newborn is super important for you to be able to understand how to nurse and pump for your baby.
I talk in detail about the chemical changes in your brain after delivery and what cues your body needs to produce more milk and allow your baby to drink. Furthermore, I talk about how to set your pump up so that you can have better success with let down and get more milk.
Nursing can be very stressful. Its a challenge for both you and your baby. A time for immense learning and both of you are changing rapidly. I hope this episode gives you more clarity on how your body works so that you can prepare for feeding your baby postpartum in any fashion that you choose.

This podcast discusses water consumption during postpartum and how much water you should drink daily. Remember, water is not something you just obtain from the water you drink, but foods you consume. Also might spill some beans about that coffee and how it affects your hydration status! (and the research is pretty funny on this).
Make sure you are drinking adequate amounts of water, but here is the punch... there is no universally accepted amount of water you must consume daily. Moral of the story: Drink when you are thirsty; drink the amount of water that makes you feel better!!

Will You get annoyed with your baby in postpartum?
There are plenty of reasons you will be annoyed with your child during postpartum. In this episode, I guide you through some reasons you will feel annoyed as a new mom and remind you that it's normal to feel this way (and no, it does not make you a bad mom).
Reason #1 - Lack of Ability to Communicate
They don't know how to let you know what they need. It will be because they cannot talk during the postpartum period, but this is an issue you will deal with throughout a child's life. In this section, I talk about managing when you don't know what your little one wants or needs. My number one tip for dealing with this lack of communication is understanding the cues that your baby is giving you.
Reason #2 - You will be nap trapped.
Babies love to snuggle. There are physiological benefits to having direct contact with you. But it's hard to do anything if you are stuck on a couch. To help you with this, place your little one in a boba wrap, which enables you to get more things done. But also permitted myself to rest with my baby through audiobooks, podcasts, or evening watching TV (the horror!!)
Reason #3 - You have to sacrifice yourself.
Things take a lot of planning, and you cannot just do what you want. It is hard to constantly sacrifice your needs or think ahead so that you don't have to offer. This was one of the most challenging things to manage. I made sure to plan so that I could prioritize my needs, and then I did not feel like I was a martyr as a new mom.

You are going through the crazy transition of becoming a mother, which is a lot to handle, but so is your partner. They are working on a transition, too, and most of the time, they are unsure how to help you during postpartum. Society has fewer clearly defined roles for your husband or partner. Most likely, they feel just as lost and confused as you.
In this episode, I dive into how your husband or partner can help you with postpartum, and it's not what you think. You need support and a friend more than anything. It can be so easy to isolate yourself from them. But lean into their support and be there for each other as you become the parents you want to be.
Are you worried you won’t be able to handle all the stress of postpartum? Concerned about your postpartum mental health?

Postpartum is a time with a lot of demands on you, mama. There is so much to think about, learn about, and manage. You will often realize that prioritizing your mental and physical health will be complex.
In this episode, I dive into the three most common reasons you aren't going to prioritize your health needs as a new mom.
1 - TIme
There are so many demands put on you as a new mom. You will only have so much time and won't be able to take your needs first.
2 - Your biological need to take care of the baby
You will tend to forget you need to take care of your baby. This is normal and natural to do.
3 - Lack of routine
You don't have a clear set of patterns to make your day predictable and form the habits you need to make yourself a priority. Make habits small and manageable, even more so than you need.
And then I give you tangible advice for how to combat this postpartum!
